Dr. Susan Taylor, an internationally recognized expert in dermatology and the Founding Director of the Skin of Color Center, has launched a web sitewhich is being viewed as “The Authority for Women of Color”.
In a word, or three, brown skin is diverse, unique and beautiful. In a word,is educational.
Women with brown skin are of diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds, having descended from African, Asian, Latin or Native Indian ancestry. Up to now, where have these women been able to turn for up-to-date scientific information and general knowledge on skin diseases that commonly affect them or cosmetic procedures which can benefit them?is now available to address the unique needs of these individuals regarding skin, hair, and nails.
Timing could not be better. During the 21st Century, the United States will rapidly become a country in which a majority of its citizens no longer have white skin. In fact, as soon as the year 2050 the U.S. Bureau of the Census projects that 47.2% of the U.S. population will have brown skin. That’s up dramatically from just 24.3% as recently as 1990.
The new web site is designed to appeal to women of all ages, ranging from 18 to 58. The primary core it expects to attract is aged 28 to 38.
Before, what had bound such a diverse group of women in unity was their beautiful brown skin. Now, they also have an address they can all call home—
One might think it would be difficult to find an authoritative source on the subject who is also a practicing dermatologist, active researcher, international lecturer, television and radio news consultant, and author. Such is not the case here. Susan C. Taylor, MD., all that and more, is the founder of
Dr. Taylor is Board Certified in both Dermatology and Internal Medicine and is Assistant Clinical Professor of Dermatology, College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University, as well as attending physician at both Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia and St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital Center, New York. A graduate of both the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard Medical School, Dr. Taylor is an active member of the American Academy of Dermatology and has assumed several leadership roles within the Academy, in addition to serving with numerous other organizations.
